It’s always fun visiting hotels that know how to do it up for the holidays, and when it comes to festive flair, the Fairmont Royal York is at the top of their game. Stopping in for lunch one late December afternoon, we had the pleasure of experiencing their spectacular Christmas decoration first hand.
The hotel’s halls were decked out in more than just boughs of holly! There were beautiful garlands, lovely wreaths, and glittering lights strung everywhere we looked, and even the shop windows were all dressed up for the season. Twinkling Christmas trees had been placed down every hall and around every corner, with the most magnificent one of all sparkling front and centre in the grand lobby. It was everything you would expect of the season in a luxurious hotel: festive and fancy in equal measure.
And I came dressed up for the occasion. I chose to go a little more glamorous and wear a faux fur coat in a pretty blush colour, a sparkly rose gold top, white denim, and the cutest, sequin-covered bag from Zara.
We ate lunch in the Library Bar. An intimate, cozy spot off the lobby, furnished with dark wood, heavy drapes, and comfy chairs, with some tucked away into little reading nooks – very library-esque. The menu was filled with great choices, and we opted for the rich and decadent lobster thermidor, a portobello burger cooked to perfection, and, for a festive cocktail, the Saint Nick’s Sours. The food was truly delicious, the service flawless, and the setting perfectly elegant, making for a lovely holiday lunch in the days before Christmas.
